The end of a marriage brings up a lot of emotions and decisions. If you and your ex have children, they will have some major changes to adjust to as well. Thinking about the best way to help them as you deal with the situation yourself can be overwhelming. You may find that addressing issues one at a time is beneficial. We are here to help you find out about your legal options for different situations that may arise during your divorce.

For most divorces, there are three primary concerns, including property division, child custody and support payments. These three can all have a big impact on your future, so you need to consider them carefully. You can’t assume that you already know the outcome for any of these separate matters.

What happens in the property division can’t impact the child custody case. Of course, there are some exceptions to this. For example, how much time the kids have with each parent impacts the child custody order, and child custody arrangements can help the courts make decisions about possession of the marital home.

If you are going through a collaborative divorce or mediation, you will have to be willing to negotiate with your ex. It is best to keep an open mind throughout this process. You might be surprised what options come up during the negotiations that might work better than the idea you originally had.

We are here to help you find the answers to any questions you might have. Once you understand what’s going on and what’s possible, you can make decisions that you feel are best for your situation.
